I love how every cereal, waffle, pancake, over-processed sprinkle-topped pastry and coffee commercial depicts breakfast time at a typical household.
A joyous rooster announces the sunrise as the scene cuts to a woman in a bathrobe, merrily enjoying the aroma of an artisanal mug of espresso. The camera pans to the delightful of swirl of creme atop the java, one that was surely made by her in-home barista. Her hair and makeup are somehow flawless as we see her sitting at her perfectly decorated kitchen table, sipping with the sweet finesse of a debutante who has all the time in the world. Following an unbelievably fast wardrobe change, we learn this beauty is a not only a business suit-clad working woman (who’s probably married to a dude that looks like a cross between Ryan Gosling and Ryan Reynolds) – she’s a mother of four darling children, too! They’re all neatly dressed – homework all done for the day, no doubt – and dining on the deliciously nutritious Nutella toast that mom has freshly whipped up. They even thank her with giant smiles, those little cherubs, making it to the bus stop with time to spare. Mom happily gets behind the wheel of her luxury sedan, and the thirty-second spot ends with her arriving to work five minutes early.
Oh, please. To quote one of my favorite recent viral videos: “Ain’t nobody got time for that.” This is an on-the-go, non-stop, 24/7-style era, and not everyone has an hour to spare in the A.M. to make a fluffy goat cheese frittata before work or school. Today’s hottest brunch spot is le car, a gourmet eatery on four wheels. Skip the always delicious (not nutritious) Taco Bell breakfast lineup or the granola bars that end up mostly on your lap instead of in your mouth (looking at you, Nature Valley), and opt for one of these make-ahead, portable meals that you and your kids can enjoy during your morning commute to school or work in Lexington.
